Portland Cement Concrete Pavement — PCCP — is the highest-performance paving solution for high-traffic roads, highways, municipal infrastructure, and heavy industrial facilities. Unlike flexible asphalt pavement, rigid PCCP distributes loads across the slab through beam action, making it far superior for applications involving heavy trucks, transit vehicles, port and airport operations, and road surfaces subjected to Arizona's extreme thermal conditions.
Ares & Eros Contracting is an experienced PCCP contractor serving the Greater Phoenix metro area and Arizona state. Our military background in project execution and documentation makes us a reliable partner for government, municipal, and large commercial clients who require precision, schedule adherence, and comprehensive project documentation.
PCCP is the pavement choice for infrastructure that must last generations. We bring the same long-view discipline to every road and heavy industrial project we build.

WHAT WE OFFER
Every portland cement concrete pavement (pccp) project Ares & Eros Contracting takes on is engineered specifically for Arizona's conditions. Here is the full range of work we deliver:
Municipal Road PCCP
City and county road construction and reconstruction using Portland cement concrete. Designed per ADOT and local agency specifications with full inspection and documentation support.
Highway & Arterial Paving
High-speed road PCCP for state routes and arterial roads. Jointed plain concrete pavement (JPCP) and jointed reinforced concrete pavement (JRCP) per project specification.
Industrial & Port Facility Paving
Heavy-duty PCCP for container yards, manufacturing facilities, distribution centers, and any application requiring high load-bearing capacity for loaded trucks and equipment.
Airport Apron & Taxiway Paving
Airfield concrete paving for general aviation airports and military airfields. Designed per FAA Advisory Circulars and engineering specifications.
Intersection & Bus Pad Construction
Reinforced PCCP for high-stress intersections and bus stop pads where repeated braking creates extreme pavement distress on asphalt alternatives.
PCCP Rehabilitation & Slab Replacement
Failed panel replacement, full-depth reclamation, and partial-depth repairs on existing PCCP infrastructure. Maintenance coordination with transportation agencies.

Arizona's climate creates conditions that maximize PCCP's advantages over asphalt flexible pavement:
• Thermal resistance: PCCP maintains full structural stiffness at 120°F+ — the primary failure mode of asphalt in Arizona is thermal softening and rutting under load. PCCP is immune to this.
• UV resistance: Portland cement concrete is not affected by UV degradation. Arizona's extreme UV intensity oxidizes asphalt binder, causing raveling and requiring resurfacing. PCCP is impervious to UV.
• Lifecycle cost advantage in Arizona: PCCP's cost advantage over asphalt is more pronounced in Arizona than in most states because the extreme climate accelerates asphalt deterioration and compresses its maintenance cycle.
• Load transfer at joints: PCCP distributes heavy loads through the slab and across joints via dowel bars. This is critical for applications involving loaded semi-trucks on Arizona's freight routes.
• Desert maintenance: PCCP requires joint sealing maintenance — far simpler and less expensive than the mill-and-overlay cycles required for Arizona asphalt. Sealed joints prevent the primary PCCP failure mode (water intrusion at joints) in Arizona's monsoon climate.
OUR PROCESS
We run every portland cement concrete pavement (pccp) project with the same discipline and sequencing we learned in the military. No improvisation. No shortcuts. Every step serves the mission.
Full review of project plans, geotechnical report, and specification requirements. QC/QA plan prepared for agency submission.
Subgrade stabilization where required. Aggregate base or cement-treated base installed and tested to specified density.
Transverse joint spacing, longitudinal joint locations, and dowel/tie bar placement designed from project drawings.
PCCP placed by slipform paver for large projects or fixed forms for tighter site access. Concrete vibrated for full consolidation.
Tining or brooming applied per specification for skid resistance. Longitudinal tining standard for highway applications in Arizona.
White-pigmented curing compound applied at required coverage rate. Critical in Arizona heat — inadequate curing is the primary cause of early PCCP surface distress.
Transverse contraction joints saw-cut to specified depth within the required time window — too early causes raveling, too late causes random cracking.
All required testing (cylinders, flexural beams, thickness cores) conducted and documented. As-built records delivered to agency.
PCCP pricing reflects the engineering, material, and quality control requirements of high-performance pavement:
• Standard municipal road PCCP (8–10"):
$25 – $45 per sq ft.
Includes base preparation, dowels, curing, texturing, and joints.
• Heavy industrial PCCP (10–12"):
$35 – $60 per sq ft.
Maximum load requirements. Fiber reinforcement and dowel bars.
• PCCP rehabilitation / slab replacement:
$18 – $35 per sq ft.
Remove-and-replace of individual failed panels in existing PCCP.
• Intersection PCCP (reinforced):
$40 – $70 per sq ft.
Full reinforcement, premium mix, high early strength for traffic return.

All pricing is based on scope, site conditions, materials, and finish selection. Ares & Eros Contracting provides transparent, detailed written estimates with no hidden fees. Contact us for your free, no-obligation quote.
PCCP is a specialty — it requires QC/QA discipline, precise timing, and the ability to work within the constraints of agency specifications and active public environments. Our military background is a direct fit for this kind of work. We bring discipline, documentation, and mission focus to every PCCP project.

Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP) is a rigid pavement type using concrete rather than asphalt as the surface and structural layer. In Arizona, PCCP is the right choice for high-traffic roads, intersections, industrial yards, and any application where thermal stability, long service life, and low maintenance costs are priorities. Arizona's extreme heat causes asphalt to soften and rut; PCCP is unaffected by temperature.
Properly designed and constructed PCCP in Arizona has a design life of 30 to 40 years for municipal roads and 25 to 35 years for industrial applications, with periodic joint resealing maintenance. This compares to 8 to 15 years for asphalt pavement in Arizona's climate before significant rehabilitation is needed.
Yes. As an SDVOSB (Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business), Ares and Eros Contracting is eligible for government set-aside contracts on Arizona infrastructure projects. We have the documentation discipline, QC/QA capability, and specification compliance experience required for public-sector PCCP work.
